Benjamin Smiles

Dedication

This small, travel-size pillowcase pattern was created in memory of Benjamin James Mollett by Benjamin’s mom, Vicki Mollett. Today, thousands of pillows are made each year and donated to children all over the country.

Our Mission

We also realize the heartache that childhood cancer brings to many. Our desire is to be able to spread Benjamins’s Smiles across the country with these little pillows. If you can help us to do this, we would appreciate it. If you do not have access to fabric, please contact us and we will try to help.

If there is a Ronald McDonald House close by or a Pediatric Hospital with an oncology department, then feel free to take the pillows directly to them. We will try to get the travel pillows ot put inside them to you. If you prefer to just send the finished pillowcases to us, we will put a pillow in them and distribute them for you. We want all pillows to be accompanied with this letter of explaination. The labels will be sent to whoever is intersted in making the pillows, free of charge.

A letter from the Mollett Family:

Benjamin was our son. He was six years old when he passed away. The greatest thing about Benjamin was that he loved to smile. If you ask someone what the greatest memory of Benjamin was, they will answer quickly, “His smile.”

Benjamin was diagnosed with cancer, Christmas Eve, 1998, and passed away the day before Thanksgiving 1999. Our last year with Benjamin was spent at the Ronald McDonald House in Salt Lake City, Utah (when he was not hospitalized). During the year, I did a lot of sewing. I made Benjamin a quilt and pillow. He picked out the fabrics and he loved bright, funky fabrics. He would have me make pillows for his friends. A small pillow, something to hold on to, but capable of many washings, is a great gift to a sick child. Many times that pillow will also bring comfort to a heartsick parent. There have been many times when Benjamins’s quilt or pillow has brought him a little closer to me. We realize that Benjamin is okay now and we are thankful for everyday of his life that was given to us. We also realize the heartache that childhood cancer brings to many. Our desire is to be able to spread Benjamins’s Smiles across the country with these little pillows. If you can help us to do this, we would appreciate it. If you do not have access to fabric, please contact us and we will try to help.
